Yara Barros, Ph.D
Profile: Yara Barros is a Brazilian biologist, and has a doctorate in Zoology. She coordinated the Spix’s Macaw Project in the wild from 1997 on, and is currently the Captive Coordinator of the Spix’s and Lear’s Macaw Programs. She worked for 8 years to IBAMA (and Institute Chico Mendes of Biodiversity Conservation, created after a division of IBAMA in 2007). She felt in love with Spix’s Macaws in 1995, after watching a lecture of the former field coordinator, Marcos Da-Ré, and since then she has been working to the species’ conservation. Currently she is the Technical Director of the Foz Tropicana Parque das Aves, a charming bird park, in Foz do Iguaçu, which is committed to birds’ conservation.
