Tambopata Macaw Projetc
Peru
Project Description: The Tambopata Macaw Project is a long term research effort designed to improve our knowledge of how healthy parrot communities function. We are studying a large number of parrot related topics including, reproductive ecology, diet, nutrition, genetics, telemetry, ecotourism, diseases, and health. There are many collaborators including biologists and veterinarians from Peru, England, the USA and other countries. The project is conducted at three sites along the Tambopata River in southeastern Peru. The project works closely with Rainforest Expeditions which owns and operates the three major field sites (Posada Amazonas, Refugio Amazonas, and Tambopata Research Center). The project is supported by the Schubot Exotic Bird Health Center at Texas A&M; University, the Earthwatch Institute and many other donor organizations and private individuals.
