Notes from the field begin for the Abaco Parrot

Project update: Wednesday, 28 April 2010
By

I want to thank Parrots International for featuring the Abaco Parrot on the website this month. This species really is a very special bird which deserves as much attention as it can get.

The Abaco parrot is one of the latest breeding parrots, initiating nests in May and June. I will be beginning field work on Abaco trying to determine how important group sizes during the nesting period are for Amazon parrots. These results will of course benefit more than just the Abaco parrot but other Amazon as well as other parrot species.

I or other project members will be posting updates to this blog. If you see something you would like to hear more about please let me know. So as you are monitoring fledging updates from others you can join us here as we begin our nesting season. Stay tuned for updates, pictures and videos.
