We’re really getting into the swing of our magazine now, and hope that you’re enjoying not only the latest offerings from us, but also the ability to revisit items and articles which appeared in our previous issues.

Our Featured Article this month falls into the Companion category – Susan Friedman PhD, a highly respected authority on learning and behaviour, gives us some Straight Talk About Behaviour in parrots.

In the same category, Dorothy Schwarz deals with the subject of Unwanted Birds, sharing with us her happy, sometimes sad, but always engaging experiences of the rescued birds in her flock, and Gudrun Maybaum writes about maintaining the balance between what our parrots like to eat and what they should eat.

Rosemary Low raises the subject of the plight of New Zealand’s parrots in the 21st century, which she says give Serious Cause for Concern, since parrot numbers in the last century have declined dramatically.

Also In the Wild, Thomas White, Gordon Brown and James Collazo have undertaken a detailed study of the meticulous process undertaken by the Puerto Rican Parrot in its selection of a suitable nesting site, with some interesting results.

In Making a Difference, Stewart Metz and Bonnie Zimmerman focus on the work of the Indonesian Parrot Project in Reducing the Trapping of Endangered Parrots – the underlying causes of this practice, and what is being done to turn the situation around.

The Lymington Foundation also features in this category, in an article in which Bill Wittkoff tells how the Foundation came into being and what it has achieved, and continues to achieve, for the conservation of the indigenous parrots of Brazil.

Our news items cover a wide range of topics, from the first footage of the world’s smallest parrot, to the monitoring of the migration of Australia’s rarest parrot, and our blogs are updated regularly to enable you to keep abreast of those topics that interest you most.
