World Animal Day
Show the animals that you care – be part of something special
October 4th is World Animal Day, the feast day of the patron saint of animals, St Francis of Assisi, and the World Animal Day organisation has been busy over the past few months, planning its campaign for 2009.
This is a wonderful opportunity to link up with animal lovers everywhere, knowing that you’re all celebrating the joy of caring for and about animals, and possibly helping to raise money for an animal charity.
The World Animal Day website (www.worldanimalday.org.uk) has plenty of fundraising and educational ideas – for individuals, for the workplace and for the community. Some of these events will take very little time to organise – others are a bit more adventurous. There’s also a link to events which took place on World Animal Day last year, which could prove inspirational.
The World Animal Day initiative is a wonderful way to heighten public awareness of animal issues and connect millions of animal lovers. Increased awareness of animal welfare issues cannot fail to lead the way, eventually, to improved standards of animal welfare around the world. What an achievement that will be!
World Animal Day is not linked to any one individual, organisation or campaign, but belongs to everyone. Whether you’d like to raise awareness of an animal charity, or help to fundraise for one – why not join in?
